As the world gathers in Beijing, America watches the opening ceremonies on television wondering if the 21st century will be known as the Chinese century as the 20th was America's century. There are no words more appropriate to describe the Opening Ceremonies than:
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
This is China's coming out party onto the world stage. The spectacular was the most elaborate and unprecedented show in the history of the Olympic saga.
The stunning, beautiful, and technological enhanced, was precisely choreographed and was a future glimpse of possible Chinese world domination. The opening of the ceremony was reminiscent of Berlin in 1936, in which Adolf Hitler showcased Germany to the world, although those games were a prelude to world war, these games will highlight China's economic might in the new fight for economic superiority developing between the U.S. and China in the era of globalization. What the opening ceremonies prove is that the U.S. has no choice but to pursue economic excellence with further globalization or suffer the consequence of becoming another society relegated to the pages of history and a story of a rise and a fall of a once mighty America. The U.S. should lead, and expand global markets and with that expansion will come freedoms. If market openness occurs around the globe, freedom will certainly follow. This is one of the key tenants of Republican economic policy. President Clinton understood globalization and America's role, and is the reason he signed NAFTA. The new extreme liberal Democratic leadership in their Party is based upon narrowing or freezing globalization. The one problem with the Democrats thinking is that once the proverbial cat has been let out of the bag, there is no stopping free trade and global markets and the expansion thereof. The Beijing Opening Ceremonies has proved that. The protectionist policies the Democrats propose in this election year will make it much harder for America to compete in the global economy and will only enhance countries such as China to win the globalization war.
On a lighter note, one positive development was NBC's coverage of the opening ceremonies which was void of political backstabbing at President Bush, and universally pro-American. Perhaps America is not as divided as we are told by the liberal media. America seems united for these Olympic games and feeling a sense of pride once again. Just what the doctor could have ordered in the height of a steamy political campaign.
China should be proud of their ceremony, a job well done. The overall affect of the games hopefully will transcend the Chinese people to become citizens of the world with freedoms enjoyed by Democracies represented at the games. As Japanese Admiral Yamamoto was credited saying about the U.S. After the bombing of Perl Harbor; "All I fear we have done is awaken a sleeping giant" and, all I fear globalization has done is awaken the sleeping dragon. And, it is America's choice in this election to further world economic progress for the U.S. or by electing Obama who is certain to retreat and bring America into economic peril.
